I use the debian distro and I compiled the kernel versions 2.4.25 and 2.6.4 to test the all motherboard. I use the howto of the site http://www.neuro-tech.net/archives/000244.html to I configure my kernel. On moment of the test the IDE Controller (dd if=/dev/hda of=/dev/null bs=1024k) the kernel entry on panic. 2.6.4 is not different. My evaluation is negative for this motherboard.

The combination of the Asus A7N8X and linux DOES work. However, the issue is that Asus did not set up the bios in such a way as to allow you to turn off the SATA RAID controller (Which in turn is the issue that will cause a kernel panic every time).

The solution? Make sure you have drives attached to the SATA RAID, that will stop the kernel panic. Installing the drivers for the RAID are nothing short of a major pain, and hopefully with enough complaints, Promise will start developing drivers for REAL operating systems.

Works great, might wanna install the official NVIDIA Linux drivers for it tho since it's NForce2 chipset.
