Has worked fine all the time (Redhat 7.x series, Gentoo 1.2), both with ALSA and OSS drivers. 4-channel support is available both with OSS and ALSA. If you compile your own kernel (2.4.x) you can add 4-ch support by choosing number of speakers during sound card kernel setup. I didn't do anything special to get 4-ch to work when using Gentoo 1.2 and their ALSA install, worked right outta the box.
