I have installed Gentoo Linux and everything is working except the modem. I used ndiswrapper for the built in Broadcomm 802.11g adapter, everything else except the modem was detected or easily configured. I have not actually tried to get the modem working since I have no use for it.
The 17" 1440x900 widescreen LCD requires some changes to the xorg.conf that cannot be done through the GUI or standard config, but those changes are well documented on the Gentoo and zd7000 community websites.
Knoppix 3.7 will not boot on the laptop no matter what boot options I choose. But, the Ubuntu based Gnoppix Live CD boot perfectly.
