Installed Linux Mint 20.03 Una and up to now everything is working. There were just two things I had to do:
1. The default kernel 5.4.* does not have the correct video driver. Tried with kernel 5.13.* branch and it has the correct video driver, however, the laptop does not shut down or reboot. I ended installing the 5.11.0-46-generic which was the latest on the 5.11 branch and finally I had a system that had the proper video drivers and shuts down.
2. When having an external monitor attached, mint maps the whole screen area instead of just the laptop screen. adding ¨xinput map-to-output 10 eDP¨ command as a startup application solved the problem.
All the keyboard keys seem to be working well, including the keyboard back light, brightness, volume, etc.

Installed Ubuntu 21.10 with no issues found to date. No additional steps or drivers required beyond initial installation. Tested wifi, camera, external monitor and projector (both HD resolution), fingerprint reader (very accurate and fast), keyboard, multitouch trackpad (3-finger swipe to change workspace works great), multi-touch touchscreen, USB-A mouse and thumb drive, USB-C charging, headphone jack, and virtualization with no issues. Very delightful machine under Linux!
Oddly, I first booted the pre-installed Windows 10 intending to dual-boot. It promptly upgraded to Windows 11, encrypted the disk with BitLocker, and lost the key. 3 levels of Dell tech support later, and they said they couldn't recover Windows.
So I wiped the disk and initially installed Linux Mint Cinnamon 20.02 (which was the latest version at the time of this writing), but this lacked a compatible video driver (warning messages, high CPU utilization, and external video disabled).
So Ubuntu 21.10 it is. Works great!
