I've had plenty of trouble figuring out what was wrong with this card. I still haven't figured out who the manufcaturer is. It was installed on a Sony VAIO laptop, and Sony doesn't know who it is either, so they told me to call Intel. And unfortunately, Intel couldn't provide any insight on the matter.
Anyway, I managed to get it working.
The orinoco_pci.c in 2.4.x kernel needed some tweaking... here's the patch:

Or you could just install the 2.6.x kernel which is readily compatible.
I hear you can also get it to work with HostAP, but I haven't tried it out.
Also, the card doesn't support monitor mode and is incapable of scanning with orinoco_pci, so I think HostAP is a better solution.
