Puppy Linux

The hardware:
Intel Celeron 800MHz, 512MB DDR1, 15GB HDD, DVD-ROM, IRDA, 56k modem, Toshiba Satellite laptop.
The software:
Windows XP dual-booting with Wary Puppy via Grub4DOS.
Precise Puppy does not boot.
In Wary Puppy manually selecting the Trident driver crashes X, but allowing Probe then manually selecting 1024x768x24 boots but is slow to redraw the screen. 16-bit depth crashes X.
I have found that xorg.conf listed the chip as Cyberblade/i1 and that adding the A gives a slight improvement.
