Can't play audio

Hi all, my sound card works fine, but i cant play audio files. . . like mp3 or just audio cd's etc. . . . Does anyone know wich plugins or codecs etc i must install. i prefer the RPM packages for my Distro RedHat 9.

Are you using Xmms? If so, you have to install the Xmms mp3 plugin.

hmmmm, if redhat doesn't want to play mp3 by default, then why it can't play audio cd too? I think the problem is in aumix, try to type:
 
$ aumix
 
and set the value of pcm and ... (argh i forget it ) just give the two top sliders some value. If it still doesn't give you any sound, then maybe you have to use alternative driver, or maybe use other distro :x
