FC5 Installed - Now I Need Help With Extra Package

I've been a loyal fan of SUSE for the past year or so, but just built a test box, so I could try some other distros. My FC5 DVD arrived today, so gave it a try. I have to say, I'm really impressed! So far, I like everything about it! No problems of any kind on the install.

Now, I do need a bit of help from someone who uses SMART with FC5. I have done all the updates and such, using SMART. I'm missing some packages I always use with SUSE, however, so know there must be some SMART channels for obtaining them. Perhaps someone could help me out.

Right now, I'm trying to get Acroreader, RealPlayer, MPlayer, Xine and I'm guessing I need the w32codec package for multimedia, as well. Likewise, I'll need the MPlayer plug-in for Firefox. I also see that I have the old 1.4 version of Java and wonder if there is a channel for getting the latest. I have a few others, but if someone could help me with SMART channels for these, it would be wonderful! Perhaps a source where I can get a list of SMART channel extras for FC5.

One more question I have, too. When I boot up, Before I can get into my KDE desktop, I have to enter the username and password every time and I wonder if I missed something during the install process, or if I can not set up for autologon.

Cheers,

I did manage to find and install Acroreader, RealPlayer, MPlayer, Xine and the w32codec packages....as I located livna-stable as a channel. That worked great!

I've messed something up with Java, but not sure what. I found some directions for installing Java 1.5....which I followed. But I do not see Java 1.5 in the system....nor is Java working with Firefox. Yet, in my main menu, I have the Java Control Panel for 1.5...and I have Java 1.5 set in OpenOffice. So, I'm not sure what I've done or where I'm at.

I still haven't figured out how I can log on with KDE at startup....as I have to enter the username and password, before KDE will start.

Cheers,
zenarcher

Thanks much, danleff. I managed to find the right package and install procedure for the Java problem and have the plug-in working correctly in Firefox. I've even found the couple of missing packages I wanted to have, because I'm used to them from my SUSE install.

I just reset the login as you suggested, so I think that will resolve the last issue I had! Amazing! I must be learning something, as this was not nearly as painful as the first Linux experiences a couple of years ago. I've only been using SUSE, so can configure that in my sleep....but I really wanted to try Fedora. I think it could become my primary Linux system.

Thanks much for the help!

danleff, I have a question I think you could help me with, regarding SMART channels for FC5. Here are the channels I have active in SMART and I wonder if there are any others you would suggest:
core
extras
updates
rpm-db
kde-redhat-stable
livna-stable
rpmforge

I'm wondering also, if there is a channel for Gnome, like the kde-redhat-stable channel.

I've tried to install FC5 on my main system, which has a pair of SATA drives, but no luck there. It's an MSI motherboard using VT8237. Everything automatically installs with SUSE, but not so with FC5. FC5 says no drives can be found, after it installs the via SATA driver. I'm lost there, but like FC5 so much, I may get rid of my SATA drives and just get one large IDE drive, so I can eliminate the problem.
