Gentoo install problem

i was installing gentoo the other day and the install went well up to the point i had to install the boot grub and i had to make the. conf boot on the ex2 boot partition but i kept geting a read-only access when i was trying to write to the partition using nano.

i can oppen the /boot/grub/grub.conf but i cant write to the partition using nano for some strange reason

A wild quess on this one. Are you root user when attempting to write to this file?

yeah i was using root but it was under the root given by the install of gentoo
