Hi Everyone

I am new to Linux.
I already installed Redhat Linux7.1 with Windows Xp
but After Installation.
When I rebooted the PC it starts "windows xp" by default
no menu to chose Linux and Windows.

Can Anyone Help me in this matter as i dont want to kill the windows Xp Partition as Office pc.

What I did?

My First Partion is of 5 GB where I installed Windows XP with NTFS partition.

I created new ext2 partion for Linux of 2 GB and Linux Swap 133 MB partition.
I Installed Linux at ext2 (2GB)partition
I selected the default Booting Operating system to Windows XP.
I installed at First Sector of partiotion not at MBR.
But I unable to create bootdisk.

I able to use my windows XP but unable to get the option for Linux.
Then I tried linux rescue but unable to find Lilo file .

Hi,
I'm not sure about RH7 install, but i have installed FC3 on hdb, with windows 2000 already on hda. It defaults as a grub loader picks up on 2000 and asks where to install grub loader, and I choose MBR.
So I suggest you reinstall RH7 and go for the bootloader on MBR which should then show both options on boot, (I had thought RH defaulted to grub rather than lilo, FC3 certainly does).

Do you know what the partition designation is for the Linux (RedHat) install? If so, you can boot into the system with the install cd, or the rescue mode, then make a boot disk, if you are concerned about writing to the MBR. For example, if you know that RedHat is on hda5, then type at the command prompt when the boot disk goes to the install Menu;

linux root=/dev/hda5

Using the rescue method, you only boot to rescue mode and root is not mounted yet. To get to root, and see your lilo file, once you are logged in, type;

chroot /mnt/sysimage
