What happens when you try to login root with no password?

Linux logins do not show what you are typing (not even asterisks like Windows does) when you enter a password, for security reasons. Type in your password and press "Enter' and see what happens. 8)

Correct, except in virtual PC, some have found that by bypassing the password (just not entering one and pressing the enter key), they got a response, which was the point of my question.
