Internet access with RedHat Fedora

Please help, I am using Redhat Fedora, but I cannot connect to the net. I can see the other computers in the network (using ping), but I can't connect to the Internet. When using the Public IP address of the network's email server, I am able to access the email.

Is this a home network, from work, or school?

Do you know if you need a static or dynamic IP?

Wireless or wired?

Through a router, or NIC card and router?
