just decide before you buy it if you want a voice modem or not, almost all modems will do everything else
 
 
US robotic are good, it's actually getting hard to find a modem that's not USB

Thanks for your response. I've ordered a Dynalink serial external modem from the EverythingLinux site in Sydney, and am hoping for the best
