commands and Linux Bash syntax. While there,click on STUFF.
You will find a list of very informative pages.
Clicking on "Alphabetical Directory of Linux Commands" will
take you to http://www.oreillynet.com/linux/cmd/ . There you
will find an A-Z list of Linux commands.Clicking on a command
will give you the syntax and switches for that command.

Well I'm also a newbe and at least as confused as you but
if you will check out " http://www.oreillynet.com/linux/cmd/ "
there is an A-Z list of linux commands that may help.By clicking
on any command in the list ,you'll get information on that command.
I printed the list and it helps a lot.

Both sites have about the same content. I would be a bit more trusting of the O'Reilly one, because O'Reilly is a commercial publisher, and thus will update more often, just to keep their trust... Either one will supply the commands. There are command info available on documentation that is usually installed along with your distro. It may give you the newest info available than is on these sites, regardless. It doesn't give a full list, at least in the distros I've used (at least I haven't found such a list yet) so you could go to one of these sites, and find the correct name for a particular command, then check your documentation to make sure you are getting the latest updated info... 8)
This are a really great sites guys...I know some of this commands but of course I can never remember what all of them do...
I remember the first time I decided to memorize all the switches for ls ting the directories.. )
For Dos.. dir /oen/w/p
pretty straight forward. right? (orders by extension then name in wide format, and one page(screen) at a time..)
