printer problem

I'm using red hat 8. 0. When i checked, my canon bjc 3000 printer was recognizd under generic printer in open office. When i tried to print documents, the printing is like a dot matrix printer with extremely slow printout.

It probably 'is' trying to print as a dot matrix ;-). You need to set it up as a 'specific model' printer. Go to the cups panel and do that...
