You don't need drivers for the hard drive. You need drivers for the SATA controller on your motherboard or for your SATA add-on card.
 
What motherboard do you have? What kernel are you trying to use? Chances are, using RH 9.0, the kernel isn't going to have drivers for your SATA controller... IIRC, that came out before SATA.

Yes, Redhat 9 support would be difficult. I know that Fedora Core 4 or Mandriva 2005 will work easily, out of the box. I have the same sata drive, the 80 gig version.

Likewise, I have 80Gig WD SATA drives and they worked just fine with Mandriva 2005LE, right out of the box.
