loading alsa drivers. could not find alsa drivers, are you sure you have configured them correctly?

something about looking in /etc/asound.state to unmute my card

loading snd_seq
fatal could not load snd_seq

also tells me strange couldn't find soundcard error on shutdown.

yet my kernel has the right driver in i'm sure.

device drivers> sound> soundcard support enabled in kernel

under > advanced linux sound architecture - alsa, sequencer support, oss mixer api, oss pcm api, oss sequencer api,

under > pci devices - bt87x audio capture (for tvtuner card), intel i8x0/mx440 and via 82c686a/b.

i've followed the alsa documention but get stuck at the unmute part when i try amixer

amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such device

is there any problem with my options, any i should have turned on or off?
i have emerged alsa-lib and alsa-utils, not alsa-driver as its in kernel and gives error if i try and also cant find the above /etc/asound.state file.

i looked around and found others with same motherboard and soundcard getting odd problems though nothing they said helped it did bring up this rather odd fact

i'm not sure why that is that i have three alsa-drivers loaded as modules, nor do i kno

Sound seems to be working on Knoppix, it loads the correct module for my sound card Via 8xxx but no sound comes from my speakers presumably because they are usb and my usb keyboard also doesn't work - so I was thinking thats just a matter of usb not sorted in knoppix w if that's causing it or how to unload some of them or even if that will fix this.

the only other thing is the tv capture card also doesn't work and its set to have the bt87x audio capture for that as well.

I'm running GNOME and 2.6.7 kernel.
I also get error couldn't open mixer device /dev/sound/mixer under gnome when tryin

any help would be great as i'm not that experienced and it has me stumped as to whats wrong or what i might have forgotteg to access the volume/sound settings.

and it seems /dev/sound only has sequencer and sequencer 2 in, no mixer. i don't know whats going on or why.
