i have 80gb hard drive, firstly it had 4 partition all primary, i changed one of these partition as logical and from it i made 5 gb space free for linux fedora core 2. after that i start installing linux, it shows allignment of partition is not valid? it's safe to ignore but some boot loader may have some prob.

Need help! grub

Hi- I had 2 partitions. 1 with windows xp and 1 with fedora. I used the loader grub. I was running out of hard drive space so I formatted the fedora partition from within windows and restarted my computer.

installing madriva w/o floppy and bootable CD

Hi. my laptop doesnt have a floppy drive but it has a pcmcia cd-rom. how can i install mandrake considering that the pcmcia cd-rom cannot be detected by the bios upon start up. I also have no floppy drive to use as a means for booting or loading the pcmcia drive.

I've been playing around lately, and just got around to enabling X's composite extension. It seems to work beautifully, but I'm having one problem. It seems when I enable the composite extension it breaks OpenGL(such as screensavers, games(crack-attack comes to mind).

Ill make it quick - I installed XP Professional - I used partition disk to create the ext3 and swap partitions so I could install linux - I installed UBUNTU The I used UBUNTU for a while. . . later I wanted to check my XP.

kernel update + udev killed console display

Hi all. I've just installed FC 4 (for the 3rd time) in order to isolate a problem with the console display. Briefly, running up2date or yum breaks the monitor. The display is fine through the boot, even looks like 1280x1024, but when it hits the xdm (gdm?) the screen is whacked.

just installed fc4 on an ACER aspire 3002lc everything seems to work fine exept that TOTEM movie player wont play dvd. the system has 3in1 drive. it keeps comming up with can't find url handle or somthing simila to that.

I have a windows xp system (/dev/hda) and a 250 Gig /dev/hdb on which I tried to install FC 4 - It installed FC 4 OK (so I thought) - when it installed GRUB, I asked it to put is on /dev/hda (MBR) (I know, perhaps I should not have) - at the very end of the installation, there was one complaint (forgot what it was) ...
