Matthew Miller has announced the release of Fedora Linux 41. The new release includes a new major release of DNF, the command-line package management tool, that is quicker, smaller, and requires fewer supporting packages. This removes the need for "microdnf" for containers and memory-constrained systems, allowing the same DNF to be used on containers, servers, PCs, and devices.
Fedora Workstation 41 is built on GNOME 47, and GNOME Console is the default terminal. Fedora KDE Plasma Desktop includes the newest KDE 6.2 release, and a new Spin includes KDE Plasma Mobile. Fedora Miracle is a revolutionary desktop environment based on Mir and Wayland that uses tiling window management with dazzling graphics. Image-based Fedora variants now include a new tool called "bootc," which allows users to define their own Fedora flavor using container patterns. Secure Boot is back for devices that require the proprietary Nvidia driver, and Firefox now supports MIPI and Pipewire cameras.
