Danielle Foré has announced the release of elementary OS 8.0.1, a bug fix update that resolves multiple issues reported over the winter season. The update features the most recent Ubuntu LTS Hardware Enablement Kernel along with resolutions for multiple issues in the AppCenter, Files, and Terminal. Italo has enhanced the dark mode brand colors and screenshots, and Pantheon is now the preferred choice for desktop environments.
Juan has implemented the new AppStream tag and contributed the URL type. The release notes have undergone a redesign, and the search functionality has been optimized for improved speed. Jeremy has resolved multiple reported issues in Files, including the prevention of file paths in search mode, addressing scrolling behavior after file deletion, and ensuring files do not disappear when dropped on an unmounted drive. The System Settings feature now enables users to configure notifications, display download sizes, and monitor progress towards the monthly sponsorship goal. Users can now restrict notification access through applications, and the Network feature introduces two new settings: the option to automatically connect to available networks and a method to minimize background data usage. Furthermore, the pointer icons within the Mouse & Touchpad settings have been enhanced, and the settings pages featuring sidebars now retain the adjusted width.
The recent update to OS 8.0.1 introduces various enhancements, such as addressing crashes, revamped partitioning schemes, and an updated encryption process. The panel height has been enhanced, and the application context menu now includes a "Keep in Dock" checkbox. The dock has been enhanced to display the device model when available and to prevent the incorrect display of an empty battery icon. The window manager has undergone an update, resolving five potential crashes, addressing more than a dozen reported issues, and enhancing overall performance. OS 8.0.1 incorporates the most recent long-term support Hardware Enablement stack from Ubuntu, featuring Linux 6.11. This update enhances performance for AMD processors and Intel "Lunar Lake" processors and offers improvements in filesystem performance. Furthermore, the captive network assistant can now be closed using the keyboard shortcut +, and wired network connections can now be resolved. The AppArmor profile has been pre-installed, and translation updates have been implemented, with appreciation for the contributions from the internationalization community and Ryo.
