Background
==========

Python is an interpreted, interactive, object-oriented programming
language.

Affected packages
=================

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Package / Vulnerable / Unaffected
-------------------------------------------------------------------
1 dev-lang/python < 2.7.18:2.7 >= 2.7.18:2.7
< 3.6.10-r2:3.6 >= 3.6.10-r2:3.6

extensive regular expression backtracking.

Impact
======

An attacker could cause a possible Denial of Service condition.

Workaround
==========

There is no known workaround at this time.

Resolution
==========

# emerge --sync
# emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose ">=dev-lang/python-2.7.18:2.7"

All Python 3.6 users should upgrade to the latest version:

# emerge --sync
# emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose ">=dev-lang/python-3.6.10-r2:3.6"

All Python 3.7 users should upgrade to the latest version:

# emerge --sync
# emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose ">=dev-lang/python-3.7.7-r2:3.7"
