Ubuntu Linux has received two security updates: [USN-7052-1] for GNOME Shell vulnerabilities and [USN-7021-4] for Linux kernel vulnerabilities:

[USN-7052-1] GNOME Shell vulnerabilities
[USN-7021-4] Linux kernel vulnerabilities

[USN-7052-1] GNOME Shell vulnerabilities

==========================================================================
Ubuntu Security Notice USN-7052-1
October 03, 2024

gnome-shell vulnerabilities
==========================================================================

A security issue affects these releases of Ubuntu and its derivatives:

- Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

Summary:

Several security issues were fixed in GNOME Shell.

Software Description:
- gnome-shell: graphical shell for the GNOME desktop

Details:

It was discovered that GNOME Shell mishandled extensions that fail to
reload, possibly leading to extensions staying enabled on the lock screen.
An attacker could possibly use this issue to launch applications, view
sensitive information, or execute arbitrary commands. (CVE-2017-8288)

It was discovered that the GNOME Shell incorrectly handled certain
keyboard inputs. An attacker could possibly use this issue to invoke
keyboard shortcuts, and potentially other actions while the workstation
was locked. (CVE-2019-3820)

Update instructions:

The problem can be corrected by updating your system to the following
package versions:

Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
  gnome-shell                     3.18.5-0ubuntu0.3+esm1
                                  Available with Ubuntu Pro

After a standard system update you need to restart your session to make all
the necessary changes.

[USN-7021-4] Linux kernel vulnerabilities

==========================================================================
Ubuntu Security Notice USN-7021-4
October 03, 2024

linux-azure-fde-5.15 vulnerabilities
==========================================================================

A security issue affects these releases of Ubuntu and its derivatives:

- Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

Summary:

Several security issues were fixed in the Linux kernel.

Software Description:
- linux-azure-fde-5.15: Linux kernel for Microsoft Azure CVM cloud systems

Details:

Several security issues were discovered in the Linux kernel.
An attacker could possibly use these to compromise the system.
This update corrects flaws in the following subsystems:
- GPU drivers;
- BTRFS file system;
- F2FS file system;
- GFS2 file system;
- BPF subsystem;
- Netfilter;
- RxRPC session sockets;
- Integrity Measurement Architecture(IMA) framework;
(CVE-2024-41009, CVE-2024-26677, CVE-2024-42160, CVE-2024-39494,
CVE-2024-39496, CVE-2024-38570, CVE-2024-27012, CVE-2024-42228)

Update instructions:

The problem can be corrected by updating your system to the following
package versions:

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
linux-image-5.15.0-1073-azure-fde 5.15.0-1073.82~20.04.1.1
linux-image-azure-fde 5.15.0.1073.82~20.04.1.50

After a standard system update you need to reboot your computer to make
all the necessary changes.

ATTENTION: Due to an unavoidable ABI change the kernel updates have
been given a new version number, which requires you to recompile and
reinstall all third party kernel modules you might have installed.
Unless you manually uninstalled the standard kernel metapackages
(e.g. linux-generic, linux-generic-lts-RELEASE, linux-virtual,
linux-powerpc), a standard system upgrade will automatically perform
this as well.
