MX Linux 23.3, which is based on Debian GNU/Linux 12.5, has been released. It offers "build-essential" packages on ISO for users who want to compile drivers offline. The OEM mode of the installer allows customers to choose a system language before proceeding with installation. Pipewire 1.0 is available in the test repository. The documentation has been updated and separated into language-specific bundles. The MX Locale tool removes all manual packages except the default system language. Systemd works on live systems.

MX-23.3 “Libretto” released!

We are pleased to offer MX-23.3 for your use.

MX-23.3 is the third refresh of our MX-23 release, consisting of bugfixes, kernels, and application updates since our original release of MX-23. If you are already running MX-23, there is no need to reinstall. Packages are all available thru the regular update channels or by installing the changed applications.

Highlights include:

Debian 12.5 “bookworm” base
This release includes all updates from the Debian and MX repositories.
Some highlights include:

  • “build-essential” packages now included on iso, for those users that might need to compile some driver and not be able to get online. (actually true on 23.2, but bears repeating).
  • When using the installer’s OEM mode, the user will be able to select a system language before user setup starts, so that the setup will be in the chosen language. This is set up by default on the RPI Respin release.
  • Pipewire 1.0 (1.0.4 available in test repo). (actually true on 23.2 as well, but bears repeating since its not debian standard. To whom it may concern: This wouldn’t be listed if it wasn’t in use on the isos, anything else would be silly).
  • Updated manual, and manual now divided into language specific packages.
  • MX Locale tool includes a function to remove all manual packages except current system default language.
  • zstd compression option added to live-remaster (antiX live system).
  • systemd is usable on live system in rudimentary fashion via init=/lib/systemd/systemd boot code. There will be unmount errors at shutdown, but by the time they occur the filesystem should be read-only already.
  • Many many language updates

All kernel updates: The standard Xfce, KDE, and fluxbox isos are all updated to the latest 6.1.90 kernel. AHS now uses the 6.8.9 liqourix kernel.

The MX Raspberry Pi Respin has also been updated with to the latest packages available from the MX and RPiOS repos.

Thank you to all the contributors, supporters, and enthusiasts. MX Linux is for you.
