=== Ubuntu Developer Summits Now Online and Every Three Months ===

Jono Bacon announces a change to the Ubuntu Developer Summit schedule
which will be exclusively online and take place every three months,
writing that the "new format of UDS provides an enhanced level of
openness and transparency that is optimized for online participants."
Bacon announces that the "first online UDS will be taking place next
week on March 5th-6th, 2013 from 2pm UTC - 8pm UTC, and the next event
will take place around the same time as the originally scheduled
physical UDS in Oakland."

Rick Spencer kicks off discussion about the Ubuntu development list of
a proposals which suggests "dropping non-LTS releases and move to a
rolling release plus LTS releases right now."

The results were as follows:

=== Jono Bacon: On Moving To An Online Ubuntu Developer Summit ===

Jono Bacon discusses the move to an online-only Ubuntu Developer
Summit, and shares some of the benefits that he sees in the new
format. He notes that there were some difficulties in hearing sessions
in past remote participation, but those issues should be fixed by
having everyone use their own microphones and webcams. He also
discusses how the use of Hangouts and IRC will allow more users to be
able to participate and help retain personal connections despite not
being face-to-face.

Jono Bacon thanks the XDA Developers who have been working on porting
Ubuntu Touch during the Ubuntu Touch Port-o-thon, which aims to bring
Ubuntu images to more devices. Bacon writes of a great response on the
XDA forums, and as a result, Ubuntu has been ported to several new
devices. He notes that David Planella and Daniel Holbach are working
on engaging with the XDA Developers to foster a closer work
relationship.

Dmitrijs Ledkovs writes about a new tool available for those tired of
typing a hostname, username, password and WiFi password every time
they flash a Nexus 7 with Ubuntu. This tool automates the steps and
allows users to reboot into fastboot mode over ssh without having to
use the volume or power buttons.

A week after Ubuntu Touch first became available, an effort to port it
to new devices is underway. Images and instructions for installing
Ubuntu Touch are now available for fifteen devices, with additional 23
ports currently in progress. During the Ubuntu Global Jam that took
place March 1st-3rd, participants were encouraged to help test, port,
and write apps for Ubuntu Touch.
