WebSphere Application Server and Akamai have teamed up to offer the on demand edge platform. Both play a central role in the transfermation from a distributed operating system to a distributed on demand operating system. This paper does a good job of describing the elements of the WebSphere Application Server architecture, the Akamai edge network, their new deployment model for J2EE applications, and how this new model enables programmers to be more productive.
