Ubuntu Security Notice USN-7414-1
April 03, 2025
xz-utils vulnerability
==========================================================================
A security issue affects these releases of Ubuntu and its derivatives:
- Ubuntu 24.10
- Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
Summary:
XZ Utils could be made to crash or run programs if it opened a specially
crafted file.
Software Description:
- xz-utils: XZ-format compression utilities
Details:
Harri K. Koskinen discovered that XZ Utils incorrectly handled the threaded
xz decoder. If a user or automated system were tricked into processing an
xz file, a remote attacker could use this issue to cause XZ Utils to crash,
resulting in a denial of service, or possibly execute arbitrary code.
Update instructions:
The problem can be corrected by updating your system to the following
package versions:
Ubuntu 24.10
xz-utils 5.6.2-2ubuntu0.2
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
xz-utils 5.6.1+really5.4.5-1ubuntu0.2
In general, a standard system update will make all the necessary changes.

Summary:
Several security issues were fixed in the Linux kernel.
Software Description:
- linux-azure-fips: Linux kernel for Microsoft Azure Cloud systems with FIPS
Details:
Several security issues were discovered in the Linux kernel.
An attacker could possibly use these to compromise the system.
This update corrects flaws in the following subsystems:
- GPU drivers;
- SMB network file system;
- Network namespace;
- Networking core;
(CVE-2024-26928, CVE-2024-56658, CVE-2024-35864, CVE-2024-57798)

package versions:
Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
linux-image-5.15.0-1085-azure-fips 5.15.0-1085.94+fips1
Available with Ubuntu Pro
linux-image-azure-fips 5.15.0.1085.71
Available with Ubuntu Pro

Ubuntu Security Notice USN-7413-1

linux-iot vulnerabilities
==========================================================================
A security issue affects these releases of Ubuntu and its derivatives:
- Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
Summary:
Several security issues were fixed in the Linux kernel.
Software Description:
- linux-iot: Linux kernel for IoT platforms
Details:
Ziming Zhang discovered that the DRM driver for VMware Virtual GPU did not
properly handle certain error conditions, leading to a NULL pointer
dereference. A local attacker could possibly trigger this vulnerability to
cause a denial of service. (CVE-2022-38096)
Ye Zhang and Nicolas Wu discovered that the io_uring subsystem in the Linux
kernel did not properly handle locking for rings with IOPOLL, leading to a
double-free vulnerability. A local attacker could use this to cause a
denial of service (system crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code.
(CVE-2023-21400)
Chenyuan Yang discovered that the CEC driver driver in the Linux kernel
contained a use-after-free vulnerability. A local attacker could use this
to cause a denial of service (system crash) or possibly execute arbitrary
code. (CVE-2024-23848)
Attila Szász discovered that the HFS+ file system implementation in the
Linux Kernel contained a heap overflow vulnerability. An attacker could use
a specially crafted file system image that, when mounted, could cause a
denial of service (system crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code.
(CVE-2025-0927)
Several security issues were discovered in the Linux kernel.
An attacker could possibly use these to compromise the system.

[USN-7415-1] Linux kernel vulnerabilities
==========================================================================
Ubuntu Security Notice USN-7415-1
April 03, 2025
linux vulnerabilities
==========================================================================
A security issue affects these releases of Ubuntu and its derivatives:
- Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
Summary:
Several security issues were fixed in the Linux kernel.
Software Description:
- linux: Linux kernel
Details:
Several security issues were discovered in the Linux kernel.
An attacker could possibly use these to compromise the system.
This update corrects flaws in the following subsystems:
- Drivers core;
- Ext4 file system;
- JFS file system;
- Network namespace;
- CAIF protocol;
- Networking core;
- IPv6 networking;
(CVE-2024-56658, CVE-2021-47119, CVE-2024-56600, CVE-2021-47122,
CVE-2021-47483, CVE-2024-56595)
Update instructions:
The problem can be corrected by updating your system to the following
package versions:
Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
linux-image-3.13.0-205-generic 3.13.0-205.256
Available with Ubuntu Pro
linux-image-3.13.0-205-lowlatency 3.13.0-205.256

linux-image-server 3.13.0.205.215
Available with Ubuntu Pro
linux-image-virtual 3.13.0.205.215
Available with Ubuntu Pro
After a standard system update you need to reboot your computer to make
all the necessary changes.
ATTENTION: Due to an unavoidable ABI change the kernel updates have
been given a new version number, which requires you to recompile and
reinstall all third party kernel modules you might have installed.
Unless you manually uninstalled the standard kernel metapackages
(e.g. linux-generic, linux-generic-lts-RELEASE, linux-virtual,
linux-powerpc), a standard system upgrade will automatically perform
this as well.
